Hi, there. I'm Jamie. Welcome to my blog!
By day, I crunch numbers and analyze budgets. By night, I fiddle with sugary substances and make a mess in my kitchen. In my dream world, I would eat dessert with every meal. Cookies would be enjoyed with breakfast, cake would be served with lunch, and ice cream would be savored after dinner.
But in the real world, common sense (and my bathroom scale) is that obnoxious, nagging voice of reason that says mature and sensible things like, “Enjoy dessert in moderation.”
If I’m going to exercise restraint, I think the desserts I do eat ought to be as decadent and extravagant as possible. None of that reduced-sugar, low-fat, portion-controlled nonsense (No offense if that’s your thing. But it isn’t my thing, at least not so far as desserts are concerned). In other words, if I’m going to have dessert, I want to really have dessert. I also think sweets should be as pretty as possible, so that the indulgence feels special and celebratory. There is no such thing as food that is "too pretty to eat."
I started baking in middle school, but I’m by no means an
expert. Not even close. One of the things I love most
about baking is that I learn something new every time, even if I’m making a
recipe I’ve made before. On this blog,
I’ll be sharing my attempts to whip up confections that look as good as they taste, and taste as good as they look. Sometimes my baking is successful, and sometimes it isn't. I promise to feature plenty of homemade cakes, pies, and other pastries. But mostly, cookies. Because, seriously, who
doesn’t like cookies?
I live in New Jersey with my husband and a growing collection of cookie cutters. In our household, he typically makes the food that keeps us healthy and nourishes the body. I typically make the food that keeps us happy and nourishes the soul. Together, we make a pretty good team.
